Chelsea-Shimizu Sister Cities Student Exchange Program
The Sister City Association of Chelsea Michigan, Inc. is dedicated to
promoting friendship between two small towns on opposite sides of the
globe. The intent is to further international understanding that
contributes to goodwill, cooperation and peaceful coexistence. Groups
of 7th and 8th graders from the Chelsea, Michigan school district and from
Hokkaido, the northern island of Japan, have visited one another's
countries since 1994, staying with host families, learning local
traditions, and nurturing friendships with other teens.
Structured as a
501(c)3 organization, the Sister City Association of Chelsea
Michigan, Inc., which organizes the Exchange Program, is supported by
the contributions of parents, community organizations, and corporate
donors. Any interested members of the Chelsea community are welcome to
participate in planning or hosting exchanges, contributing time or
ideas, and providing input to the leadership function of the group.
