Beach students will travel to Japan

For the third consecutive year, Beach Middle School students will be traveling to Japan to take part in the Chelsea-Shimizu Exchange Program.

To prepare for this adventure, the students will learn survival Japanese, eat at a Japanese restaurant, and read up on cultural concerns. The students will tour historical areas of Japan, and then fly on to their host families in Shimizu.

They will also attend a Japanese school and experience the daily life of a Japanese student.

In October, Chelsea families will host 19 students and adults who will attend school at Chelsea High School and Beach Middle School.

The Chelsea exchange group is planning a number of fund?raising events, including two Saturday car washes, May 3 and May 31, a seventh and eighth-grade dance April 18, and a T-shirt sale. The money raised will be used for interpreters, dictionaries and traveling expenses.

Also, Borders Bookstore m Ann Arbor will donate a percentage of sales from May 2-4 to the exchange program for anyone who mentions the Chelsea Shimizu program when making a purchase.
